Jun. 17th, 2010 07:05 ami don't answer my phone if it's a number i don't recognize. i just don't.
i figure if it's someone i know, and if they really want to talk to me, they'll leave a message and i will get back to them. right away, if that's the case.
got a call yesterday. didn't answer. they left a message.
it was a place i'd put in a job application. they are setting up times for interviews.
i'ma call them this morning and set up a time. it'll probably be today? i think.
not sure this is a job that fits me, but who knows? i mean, IF i get hired. it will be something completely different than anything i've done, tho driving is part of it.
i'm sure there are dozens of people hoping for a chance of landing this position. lotta competition out there.
i'll either get it or i won't. i'm not holding my breath, but i am a little anxious, and do have some anxiety about the interview.
yup.
that's it.

on 2010-06-17 03:14 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if you want interview advice, but if you do, then read on.
I find that I can turn some of the nervousness around by thinking "It's MY interview too!" and I start approaching it that way, like I am an auditor out there to determine the best job for ME and that they are just putting the best face on the job, and I need to find the real story. Then I start thinking about the stuff in other jobs that I absolutely hated, and I make a list of that junk, and I ask THEM questions related to that. Why is this position open? How often do people leave this job? When faced with numbers vs quality, which side does the company come down on? Describe the typical work day for me. etc.
I started this aggressive approach to job interviews a few years ago, and I actually find that most employers respond well to this method, and they remember you as an applicant. It is all about their memory of you and your interview. They are probably interviewing 10 to 20 candidates and all the stock "I'm a people person!" answers blend together. If you come in with some smart, sensible questions, you will stick in their minds.
BTW, if being aggressive isn't your style, there is another simple way to be easily remembered. If they give you a choice for time of interview, ask when the last day of interviews will be, and ask for the last slot in the last day. Studies have shown that the last applicant has a significant statistical advantage over earlier applicants.
