just tried to apply for a Library Page position that almost pays enough but wtf, ok

i couldn't even finish the application

i needed three references of professional, academic, or volunteer people, their names, phone numbers, and email addresses. people who can vouch for my work ethic, etc.
i don't even KNOW three people of whom i could provide such information.

it was a *required* field. cannot even continue with the app until it is filled out.

That sounds frustrating. :( I remember applying for a job like that when I was younger. They had some test questions on the Dewey Decimal System (no problem there) and some other system I'd never even heard of. Naturally, I didn't get the job.

That doesn't really matter, those are all professional references, i.e. people who have worked with you in some capacity. I've had some odd references at different points in my work life. I think all they care about is that you have the references there from actual people who you have worked for or with.

most HR places will not do any kind of work ethic recommendation. they will just confirm or deny you worked there for a certain time.
