Didn't work Monday.
Worked 9.25hrs yesterday.
Didn't get a call last night for dispatch today.
Went into work at semi-regular time this morning
anyway.
They put someone else in my truck today.
Sharing the work with other drivers.
They SAID this is the busy time of year
and that we'd be working probably
six days a week until late September.
uh.
So, now that unemployment is fucked, I'm working part-time,
not making as much as I was on unemployment.
Scrambling to find another job that will put me to work
full-time.
Should be easy, it only took me a year and eight months
to get this one.

On the plus side...
It's always easier to find another job if one is working.
(I still have this job)
I have gained knowledge and experience
driving ten wheel and super-dump trucks.
I has 'sperience.
Just looking on the bright side
because this much is true.
Onward.

on 2011-08-03 05:10 pm (UTC)How is the band doing. Are all the other members doing OK with their day jobs? Maybe there are some jobs out there for the band. Pretty soon there might be big strikes and protests. Maybe that would be an opportunity for the band. You guys should learn Joe Hill, Solidarity Forever, This Land is Your Land, and always my favorite: L'Internationale... go out there and stir up the masses to action.

on 2011-08-04 12:07 am (UTC)I know they don't want to lose me, but I pretty seriously need to work. My roof leaks and I was really looking forward to working hard this summer to get enough money to replace it. As it stands, I'm just barely treading water unless more work comes in.
It's a small company, one of the drivers ROLLED one of the trucks last week, totaling it. He's lucky to be alive. I keep meaning to take a pic of it before it goes away but you know.
There's always something with a large or small trucking business to drain income,
and this is a small company that sub-contracts jobs from major contractors and is at the beck and call and whim of such opportunities. Or, as my dad calls it, a "Gyppo" outfit.
If you know what I mean.
The band has taken some time off since just after our gig. Drummer had a gig with people he's been playing with for longer than he has with us, last weekend I had scheduled to attend Centaur Guitar's weekend of more than 20 bands playing back to back both days. It was pretty sweet, but ate up my entire weekend. I'd been looking forward to it for months. Bass player spaced on our practice last night, but we all get together tomorrow evening for a full short practice. School night and all. Sunday is on, as well.
I don't foresee any big strikes or protests of magnitude in this country for the following reasons:
too scared
too comfortable
too clueless as to the enourmity of the current situation
disinterest
etc.
