Jul. 3rd, 2012 02:41 pmso i have a late '06 iMac 20" screen with a 250GB hard drive that i bought in Dec of '06
but didn't take out of the box until my birthday in March of '07, and i've been using it ever since,
and love it a whole bunch
but for the past year or so it has increasingly become sluggish, until this past week it became
almost unusable. quite frustrating.
i only had like 14GB of free space on it, what with all the photos and vids and applications and crap i've accumulated over the years.
so, yesterday i bought and installed a 2GB stick of RAM, which didn't help noticeably, and ran a disc utility (onyx) to clean up stuff. that helped a little.
and so again
today i bought a laCie external 500GB hard drive and put about 50GBs of stuff on it
and deleted another 50GBs or so, so i now have 100GB free space
it has helped noticeably, but not even close to where it should be
i was told that with all the stuff i had on it, and with so little free space for so long
that the hard drive might have been working too hard for too long and may be beyond
these measures that i've implemented the past couple of days.
i sure sure sure don't want to have to replace the hard drive, what with just having to buy a bass guitar and amplifier and a PA and mixing board because the old bass player left the band and took his toys with him. but, eh. whatever. my roof will leak this winter or it won't.
and
for whatever r3eason, i'm not working today, so, two unpaid days off this week. not the way to begin a new pay period.
however, a friend (whom some of you may know) joined the band. he's never played bass but he's a very good guitar player and also motivated to learn the bass parts on the ten songs we're doing for our gig in a little over a week (eep!!) and it's coming along so much better than i could have hoped
that ahhh, this is nice stuff
so, how's that for an update? 'cause it's been a while. i AM reading daily. so, there.
xoxoxo
