also
around 11am today i stopped in at this batting cage thing down the street
that i've been meaning to stop at for years, but never have. well, i did this morning.
talked to the dude, got prices. "go ahead and watch the others, see what it's all about. if you want to
do it, let me know."
so i watched. a young man with a coach? a couple of 20-something young women, swinging away.
there were options as to softball, baseball, fast-pitch softball and such.
after watching for a bit, i decided to do it another time. but when i went back out into the lobby
and the guy asks if i'm willing to give it a try, i say yes. because i told myself i was going to do it
before i got there. so, i ponied up five bucks for 40 softball pitches at 55mph.
HA!!!
i couldn't even swing at them, the first couple of times. they just came quick and i wasn't prepared.
then i swung and missed a bunch. then fouled off some, and rattled my hand a bunch.
i did hit a couple of solid weak grounders, which was like oh yeah that's how i remember it.
afterwards, i was trembling and winded from the exertion (like ten minutes or less???) and it took
easily 30 minutes to settle down. ha.
i last swung a bat when i was 31? something like that. that was over 30 years ago. played on a softball team in '79 and '80.
i wasn't great, but i could connect. hit a solid triple one game and the third base coach waved me on
for the home run but i ran out of steam before i reached home plate and was tagged out.
anyway...
i will go back. and i will do better.
but tomorrow i will see if i strained any muscles, and how long i will need to recover.
pow.
